Once a year, Lloret de Mar celebrates the Rice Gastronomic Days. If there is one dish that best represents Lloret’s maritime tradition, it is a good rice and fish paella.
During the month of May, Lloret de Mar proudly showcases its culinary aspects with an extensive display of rice dishes prepared in different ways and for all tastes. These are days when this simple and popular product showcases its full potential in the hands of Lloret’s restaurant chefs, who offer a range of spectacular menus with rice as the centerpiece.
These gastronomic days aim to enhance the culinary image of Lloret de Mar and, focusing on cuisine, attract a local audience who, once in the municipality, can discover the many other tourist attractions the town has to offer.
Take advantage of the opportunity to escape to Lloret during the off-season and enjoy the hidden treasures of this town without the crowds usually found during the summer months.
Here are some points of interest you should visit in Lloret de Mar:
- Beaches and coves such as Platja de Fenals, Treumal, or Cala Boadella
- Camino de Ronda
- Santa Clotilde Gardens
- Can Font
- Castell d’en Plaja
And for accommodation, there is no better option than our campsite, where you will find all the comforts and services to enjoy a relaxing getaway that will help you recharge your batteries.
The gastronomic days are organized by the Guild of Bars, Restaurants, and Cafeterias in collaboration with the Hospitality Guild of Lloret de Mar, with the support of the Commerce Department of Lloret de Mar’s City Council and Lloret Turisme.
You can enjoy these gastronomic days until May 28th at the 20 establishments participating in this initiative. Check here to see which establishments in Lloret are taking part in this edition of the Rice Gastronomic Days and the menus they propose.

El Lloret de los Indianos, have you ever heard of it? Lloret de Mar has inherited an important historical, cultural, and social legacy from the Indianos. In the mid-18th century, many of its inhabitants were inspired to “make their fortune in the Americas” and try their luck in the American colonies.
Havana and Matanzas were the most popular destinations, Cuban cities where they pursued various occupations. Some of them managed to amass a fortune and returned to their hometown, where they were known as “Indianos.” Upon their return, they transformed the urban landscape of Lloret de Mar.
With their grand mansions, they built a beautiful and architecturally impressive promenade, financed several charitable works such as the hospital and schools, and actively participated in the modernist reconstruction of the parish church.
In this article, we will delve into the history of Lloret de Mar and discover the traces left by the Indianos in this beautiful coastal town.
The Indiano Route of Lloret de Mar
Paseo de Jacint Verdaguer
The visit of the Indianos of Lloret de Mar begins at what is now the Museum of the Sea, facing the beach. The building was constructed in 1887 for Enric Garriga and his family, which is why it is also known as Can Garriga. Lloret was an important center for sailboat construction, and the shipyards were located where the Jacint Verdaguer Promenade is today. When the shipyards disappeared, the municipality decided to divide the land for sale to finance the construction of the new town hall building. Not only did they succeed in paying for the project, but the Jacint Verdaguer Promenade was filled with Indiano-style houses as it coincided with the period when the “Indianos” began to return. They designed this palm tree-lined promenade to give Lloret a Caribbean flair since they enjoyed looking at the sea because it brought back memories.
Sant Romà Church
The Sant Romà Church is one of the most prominent buildings, not only on the Indiano Route of Lloret de Mar but also in the entire town. It was built in the 16th century but had become outdated architecturally. Therefore, those who had returned from America dedicated part of their fortune to renovating it, especially the facade, resulting in an impressive modernist church.
Can Font
The journey along the Indiano Route of Lloret de Mar ends at Can Font. Built-in 1877, it was the home of the Indiano Nicolau Font i Maig and is now a museum that recreates what an Indiano house was like. Some elements are original, such as the wonderful modernist entrance door or the double sink in the main floor bathroom, but most of the furniture comes from Can Garriga or from donations of objects from the period by the townspeople.
Relive Lloret de Mar’s Indiano past at the Fair of the Americans
The Fair of the Indians aims to take a trip to the past, where for three days, those times and its people will be remembered through craft demonstrations, theatrical performances, craft markets, exhibitions of overseas products, guided tours to showcase the artistic heritage inherited from the Indianos, concerts, rum tastings, and daiquiri workshops.
Don’t miss it!

The characteristics of its beaches and cliffs, with forests that reach the sea and the richness of its coast, make it incomparable. The Costa Brava is the ideal place to practice water sports and scuba diving.
The waters of the Costa Brava enjoy great biodiversity and exceptional quality. Athletes from all over the world look to the Costa Brava for the ideal destination to practice scuba diving and all kinds of water sports. Near Lloret de Mar, on the northeast coast of Spain, there are several options for diving. Here are some popular places in the area:
- Medes Islands: Located near the town of L’Estartit, the Medes Islands are an archipelago that has become a protected natural marine park. Its crystal clear waters and its rich underwater biodiversity make this place a perfect destination for scuba diving lovers.
- Marine Reserve of the “Illes Formigues”: This reserve is located near the Port of the fishing town of Palamós. Although it is a little further from Lloret de Mar, it is an area famous for its underwater beauty and its great amount of underwater life.
- Costa de Blanes: The Costa Brava in general, which stretches from Blanes, Tossa de Mar, to the border with France, offers many opportunities for scuba diving. There are several dive centers and diving schools along the coast, where you can get information on the best dive spots in the area.
It is important to note that scuba diving is an activity that requires proper training and certification. If you do not have previous experience, I would recommend looking for a recognized diving school in the area, where you can receive the necessary training and do professionally guided dives.
Also, always remember to follow safety regulations and respect the marine environment. Enjoy this exciting experience exploring the underwater wonders near Santa Elena campsite. Practice Scuba Diving in Lloret de Mar

5 best views of LLoret de Mar. Lloret de Mar is a pretty fishing village and one of the main tourist destinations on the Costa Brava. The Indian legacy, the Iberian settlements, the route of the hermitages, the noucentista gardens or the modernist architecture, are just some of the cultural proposals that the town offers us. But also, if you are a lover of photography you will find a lot of places with good views and landscapes where you can take unique photos.
In this article we will discover the places that you cannot miss to enjoy the best views of Lloret de Mar.
The 5 places with the best views of Lloret de Mar:
- Santa Clotilde Gardens: we have already told you in other articles about these spectacular gardens and that is that they are a paradise of beauty within Lloret de Mar. Their flowers and mermaid statues evoke a story from which you will not want to escape. They also have a privileged view of Cala Boadella and the coast. The green of its trees and the turquoise color of the sea will make your photo a success.
- La Pineda de Fenals: it is located at the end of Paseo de Fenals and is known as the “Racó d’En Sureda” pine forest. In this area we can see the highest point of the town, where the remains of the Castillo de Sant Joan are located. Following a sandy path that goes up towards this fantastic pine forest, we will be able to capture the various cliffs next to the sea and the entire Fenals beach.

It symbolizes the wives of the sailors who awaited the arrival of their husbands from the seashore and is also a tribute to Lloret’s Indian past. From the viewpoint you can immortalize the entire bay of Lloret.

Lloret de Mar is sun, beach, fun and also culture and history. In the different museums you will discover the history that surrounds this city on the Costa Brava, but first you must know a little about where it comes from and what is the most relevant thing you should know about Lloret.
According to various archaeological excavations of settlements, Lloret de Mar dates back to the 3rd and 4th century BC. in the middle of the Iberian era. Although the first “real” seal is known to have been in the Middle Ages (10th – 15th centuries AD).
In the middle of the pirate era, where maritime attacks from abroad were common, in Lloret made up of beautiful villages and inland farmhouses, it was defended from such attacks by a beautiful old Romanesque church – Sant Romà de Sant Joan’s Moorish tower.
It was not until the 18th century when King Carlos III of Spain decreed free trade and where the entire Costa Brava exploded in terms of trade and its great beaches and ports filled with wealth.
Huge ships were built in Lloret to set sail for America, where some decided to stay to seek great fortune. When they returned with the wealth they acquired, they built the beautiful villas that we can find in Lloret de Mar.
The 3 museums you must visit in Lloret de Mar:
1 . Can Zaragoza farmhouse – Archaeological Museum of Lloret de Mar
Located on a small hill surrounded by forest and gardens, you can visit this fantastic medieval farmhouse where it was built and inhabited by the Zaragoza family in the years after its construction in 1317.
Can Zaragoza will show you the Iberian archaeological finds of the settlements that existed, as well as collections of paintings and drawings that they made.
2 . Maritime Museum of Lloret de Mar- Museum of the Sea
In the middle of the promenade you will learn everything that surrounds Lloret de Mar in its history with the sea, from the ships that were built to the sailors themselves as they left to trade tobacco, coffee and cotton to America. On the ground floor, the original ceilings, walls, furniture and floors are from the 19th century.
3 . Can Font
This building was built in 1877 and where all the fortunes brought from America by the “Indians” are collected. Not only will you discover these ancient gifts from the old continent, but you will also enjoy the beautiful construction of the house itself. You will enter to know the way in which the villagers lived after their return from America.

In 2020, the Som de Mar festival was born, a cultural project that is held in the Santa Clotilde Gardens in Lloret de Mar. This year, without the restrictions of the pandemic, a new edition is being held again.
A festival that arose in the midst of a pandemic and is already a benchmark for the South Costa Brava. It is expected that there will be a capacity of 100% of its capacity, reaching 1,200 locations.
The objective is clear, to encourage the public to enjoy everything that Lloret de Mar has to offer. To this end, new spaces have been created in the Sa Boadella cove right next to the Gardens. Jaume Dulsat, the mayor of Lloret de Mar, assured that “the Som de Mar festival is one of the opportunities that the pandemic leaves us”, and that “it is a project now consolidated as a reference festival in the Girona regions ”.
Given its success, the performance calendar will feature a much larger line-up with prestigious names and recognized artists than the previous two years.
From August 19 to 27 with concerts by Manel, Damaris Gelabert (family day), Blaumut, Rosario Flores, Sergio Dalma, Boney M. feat. Liz Mitchell, Joan Dausà and some other surprises.
There are still tickets available on the festival website www.somdemarfestival.com with prices ranging from €15 to €48. Do you already have yours?
